The MATCO-NORCA mn-ftbu0503 is a forged steel threaded hex bushing designed to reduce a 1-inch female pipe thread to a 1/2-inch male pipe thread. The hex body provides a flat wrench surface for secure installation using standard pipe wrenches or hex wrenches. Forged construction gives the bushing higher structural integrity than cast alternatives, making it suitable for moderate-pressure plumbing and piping applications. At 0.21 pounds, the fitting is compact and straightforward to handle during assembly. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of reducer bushing when transitioning between two different pipe sizes within a threaded piping system.
This hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, gas piping, and mechanical systems where a threaded pipe size reduction is required at a joint. The external hex design allows the fitting to be installed and removed with standard hand tools without damaging adjacent fittings. It is typically found in water supply lines, low-pressure gas lines, and general mechanical piping where NPT threads are standard. Installation in an inner-thread-to-outer-thread configuration allows it to seat directly into a larger female fitting while accepting a smaller male connection on the other end.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard fitting for threaded NPT piping systems requiring a 1-inch to 1/2-inch reduction in residential and light commercial plumbing and mechanical applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water or gas supply and relieve system pressure before installing or removing any threaded fitting. Apply thread sealant tape or pipe compound to the male threads before assembly to ensure a leak-free connection. Do not overtighten, as this can crack fittings or damage threads on connected components.
