The MARS mars-33233 is a Klixon-style electric heat sequencer designed for staged electric heating systems. It features 4 switches with a switch-on time of 1 to 24 seconds and a switch-off time of 45 to 75 seconds. The sequencer controls the staged activation and deactivation of electric resistance heating elements, preventing simultaneous element startup that would otherwise cause large current surges. It is configured as a 2 DPST (double-pole single-throw) switching arrangement. Licensed electricians and HVAC technicians install this component as part of electric furnace or air handler servicing.
This sequencer is used in residential and light commercial electric forced-air heating systems. It is commonly found inside electric furnaces and electric air handlers where multiple heating elements must be energized in a timed sequence to limit inrush current draw on the electrical system. The staged on and off timing helps protect both the heating elements and the branch circuit wiring from excessive simultaneous load.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement sequencer for residential and light commercial electric furnaces and electric air handlers that use staged multi-switch heat sequencers.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC technician. Disconnect and lock out all power to the electric furnace or air handler at the breaker panel before removing or installing this sequencer. Verify the replacement sequencer matches the switch count and timing characteristics required by the equipment. Follow NEC guidelines for working inside electric heating equipment.
