Product Description

The MARKAL 81220 is a high-temperature paint stick marker engineered for marking metal and glass surfaces that are heated or will be subject to extreme heat during processing. Rated for use on surfaces ranging from 4000 degrees F to 16000 degrees F, this marker uses a solid paint stick formula with a bullet-shaped tip that deposits a visible white mark on hot coils, billets, bars, castings, pigs, ingots, plates, rails, and beams. It is used primarily in metal processing, foundry, and glassworking environments where conventional markers or paint would burn off or become unreadable. The solid paint construction resists the high-radiant-heat conditions typical of industrial furnace and mill operations.

The MARKAL 81220 is intended for industrial facilities that process ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as glass manufacturing operations. Common applications include marking hot-rolled steel sections, cast iron pigs, aluminum ingots, and glass blanks directly on the line. The marker allows workers to apply identification marks, heat-code numbers, or routing marks to workpieces while they are still at elevated temperatures, eliminating the need to wait for cool-down. The bullet tip provides consistent contact across curved and flat surfaces common in mill and foundry stock. Each package contains 144 individual markers.

Key Features

  • Rated operating temperature range: 4000 degrees F to 16000 degrees F (2040 degrees C to 8710 degrees C)
  • Bullet-tip design for consistent marking on flat and curved hot-metal surfaces
  • White color family provides contrast on dark oxidized metal surfaces
  • Solid paint stick formula — does not burn off at rated surface temperatures
  • Compatible with coils, billets, bars, castings, pigs, ingots, plates, rails, beams, and glass
  • Package quantity of 144 pieces supports high-volume line use

Compatibility

Designed for use on coils, billets and bars, castings and pigs, ingots and plates, rails and beams, and glass surfaces as stated in the product specifications. Suitable for direct application to heated workpieces in foundry, steel mill, and glass processing environments.

Installation Notes

This marker is applied directly to hot surfaces by trained industrial workers following facility-specific heat and PPE protocols. Always use appropriate heat-resistant gloves and face protection when marking surfaces at elevated temperatures. Follow your facility safety procedures and applicable OSHA standards for hot-work operations. Store markers away from direct heat sources and open flame when not in use.
