The MAKITA USA INC 9557PBX1 is a 4-1/2 inch cut-off and angle grinder built for demanding trade applications. Powered by a 7.5-amp motor that delivers 11,000 RPM, it handles grinding and cut-off work on metal, masonry, and other hard materials. The small-diameter barrel grip measures just 2-1/2 inches for a secure, fatigue-reducing hold during extended use. Labyrinth construction seals the motor bearings from dust and debris, and a protective zig-zag varnish seals the armature for extended tool life. Thicker coil wires wound more closely reduce heat and energy loss during continuous operation. An AC/DC switch allows use with alternative power sources, broadening the tool's job-site versatility.
The 9557PBX1 is suited for residential and commercial trade work including HVAC equipment fabrication, plumbing rough-in cutting, electrical conduit work, and general metal grinding. The extra-large paddle switch and lock-on/off feature support continuous operation without operator fatigue. The rotatable gear housing positions every 90 degrees, allowing the tool to adapt to tight or awkward work angles. It ships as a kit and includes five 4-1/2 inch grinding wheels, a 4-1/2 inch wheel guard, a 4-1/2 inch cut-off wheel guard, a lock nut, a lock nut wrench, a side handle, an inner flange, and a case.
Designed for use with standard 4-1/2 inch grinding wheels and cut-off wheels. Consult the tool documentation for accessory arbor size and maximum wheel thickness before mounting any abrasive wheel.
Installation and wheel changes must be performed by a qualified operator following the manufacturer's safety guidelines. Always disconnect the tool from power before mounting or removing any abrasive wheel. Ensure the correct wheel guard is in place before operation — the included grinding wheel guard and cut-off wheel guard are not interchangeable. Follow OSHA abrasive wheel safety standards and verify wheel RPM rating meets or exceeds the tool's rated no-load speed of 11,000 RPM.
