The MAKITA 9031 is a corded belt straight sander built for precision material removal in tight spaces and contoured surfaces. It runs on 115 volts at 5 amps and uses a narrow 1-1/8 inch by 21 inch abrasive belt, making it well suited for finishing work where wider sanders cannot reach. Variable speed control lets the operator match belt speed to the workpiece material and grit. Ball and needle bearings support consistent belt tracking and long service life. The lock-on button reduces operator fatigue during extended runs. At 15 inches overall length and 6.32 pounds, it handles comfortably in one hand or with the multi-position side handle attached.
The 9031 is used in finish carpentry, cabinet shop work, metal fabrication, and general surface preparation where a narrow belt profile is required. It excels on door edges, window frames, stair stringers, and narrow stock where a standard belt sander would be too wide to control. The compact body fits into confined work areas. It is a common tool for carpenters, millworkers, and metal fabricators who need repeatable surface finish results. The included abrasive belts in 40, 60, 100, and 120 grit allow the operator to progress through material removal stages without sourcing additional consumables at startup.
Accepts 1-1/8 inch by 21 inch abrasive belts. Included belts are Makita part numbers 742301-7-1 (40 grit), 742302-5-1 (60 grit), 742304-1-1 (100 grit), and 742305-9-1 (120 grit), two of each.
Installation and operation of this tool should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with corded power tools and applicable workplace safety standards. Confirm the supply circuit matches the 115-volt, 5-amp draw before connecting. Inspect the abrasive belt for tears or tracking issues before each use, and ensure the belt guard is fully seated. Disconnect the tool from power before changing belts or adjusting the side handle position.
