The M-D BUILDING PRODUCTS 06577 is a self-adhesive sponge rubber weatherstrip tape engineered for sealing gaps in marine and automotive applications. Constructed from high-density sponge rubber, this tape compresses to form a durable, long-lasting seal against air, moisture, and dust intrusion. It measures 1/4 inch thick by 1/2 inch wide and runs 10 feet in length, giving installers enough material to address door frames, hatches, trunk lids, gunwales, and similar perimeter gaps. The tape is black and can be trimmed with standard scissors or a utility knife to match the exact length needed for a given application. Service techs and marine riggers reach for this tape when a clean, pressure-sensitive install is required without additional adhesive or mechanical fasteners.
This weatherstrip tape is suited for light-duty sealing tasks on boats, personal watercraft, automotive doors and hoods, and recreational vehicles where a self-adhering closed-cell foam seal is preferred. The sponge rubber construction resists repeated compression and recovery, maintaining its sealing profile over time. It is available in individual rolls and is sized for hand-tool trimming in the field, making it practical for both shop and mobile service environments.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or new-install weatherstrip for marine hatches, boat doors, automotive door frames, trunk lids, hood edges, and similar perimeter sealing applications where a 1/4 inch by 1/2 inch foam profile is appropriate.
Installation is performed by cleaning and drying the bonding surface thoroughly before removing the adhesive liner and pressing the tape firmly into place. Marine riggers and automotive technicians should ensure the substrate is free of oil, wax, and loose paint prior to application. The tape can be cut to length with a sharp utility knife or scissors. In mobile or marine service, allow the adhesive to dwell at ambient temperature for full bond strength before closing the door or hatch.
