The M.A. FORD 79050006 is a 6-flute, single-end countersink designed for chamfering, countersinking, and deburring operations in metal fabrication and machining environments. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 120-degree included angle (60-degree centerline angle) and a 1/2-inch head diameter. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/8 inches in diameter, and the tool runs 2 inches in overall length. Right-hand cutting direction suits standard spindle rotation on mills, drill presses, and lathes. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and fabrication shops are the primary users of this tool.
This countersink is suited for production and maintenance applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 120-degree geometry is commonly used when a shallower chamfer angle is required on fastener seats or edge breaks. Typical applications include countersinking clearance holes in sheet metal, structural steel, aluminum plate, and plastic components prior to fastener installation. The 6-flute configuration reduces chatter and produces a smoother finish compared to single- or double-flute designs at similar feed rates.
Rated for use on alloy steel, aluminum, brass, cast iron, high-nickel steel, high-tensile steel, magnesium, magnesium alloy, mild steel, Monel, plastic, and stainless steel workpieces. Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard HSS countersink for any machine tool accepting a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Machinists and fabricators install this tool in a drill press, mill, or lathe using a standard 3/8-inch collet or keyed chuck. Always secure the workpiece firmly before operation and confirm spindle speed matches the material and head diameter per standard HSS cutting data tables. Because this countersink includes no pilot, a pre-drilled or center-punched pilot hole is required to locate the tool accurately. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material when machining ferrous metals to extend tool life.
