The M.A. FORD. 48500020 is a single-cut carbide abrasive bur designed for deburring, shaping, and material removal across a wide range of metals and hard materials. Built to the SL-4 industry specification, it features a conical radius end (taper) head geometry with a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 14-degree included angle, and a 1/4 inch shank for standard die grinder or rotary tool collets. The uncoated carbide head delivers consistent cutting performance and resists wear during high-speed operation up to 22,000 RPM. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and fabricators install this bur for precision grinding, blending, and finishing tasks in production and maintenance environments.
This bur is suited for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. The single-cut tooth style produces a smoother surface finish with lower vibration compared to double-cut patterns, making it a practical choice for finishing passes and contour work. Its 3-1/4 inch overall length provides adequate reach into recessed cavities and deep profiles. This bur is appropriate for both production machining environments and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) applications where consistent material removal on tough alloys is required.
Designed as an SL-4-specification replacement bur compatible with standard 1/4 inch collet die grinders and rotary tools used in metalworking, fabrication, and MRO applications.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or fabricators familiar with rotary cutting tools. Ensure the die grinder or rotary tool is fully powered down and unplugged before inserting or removing the bur from the collet. Confirm the collet size matches the 1/4 inch shank diameter and that the tool spindle speed does not exceed the rated maximum RPM. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning any grinding or deburring operation.
