The M.A. FORD. 2XDSR5312A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. It carries a 142-degree point angle optimized for self-centering entry and reduced thrust in tough workpieces. The bit features an ALtima aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) coating that increases surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life in dry or minimally lubricated cutting environments. At 5.28 inches overall length with a 3.03-inch flute length, it delivers standard jobber reach across a wide range of drilling setups. A straight cylindrical shank measures 35/64 inch (0.5469 inches decimal) for secure chuck engagement. Manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified processes, this bit is built to consistent dimensional tolerances suitable for production and maintenance drilling alike.
This drill is intended for cutting steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys - material categories coded H, M, and S in standard tooling classification. It is well-suited for use in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses where rigidity allows the solid carbide substrate to perform without chipping. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry support efficient chip evacuation in these materials. Coolant-through capability is not included; flood coolant or air blast applied externally is the appropriate cooling method. This bit is commonly used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working in aerospace, fabrication, and industrial manufacturing environments.
Designed for drilling steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material groups H, M, and S). Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.5469-inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of the M.A. FORD. Series 2XDSR high-performance carbide jobber drill lineup.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide cutting tool handling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Do not use this bit in hand-held portable drills; it requires a rigid machine setup to prevent chipping or breakage. Apply external flood coolant or air blast during cutting - coolant-through passages are not present on this tool.
