The M.A. FORD 2XDSR4646A is a jobber length drill bit ground from solid carbide and coated with ALTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. The bit measures 0.4646 inches (11.80 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 4.7244 inches (120.00 mm) and a flute length of 2.5984 inches (66.00 mm). The 142-degree split point reduces thrust and helps the tool self-center on entry. With a straight cylindrical shank and right-hand spiral flute geometry, this bit is designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where dimensional accuracy and tool life are critical.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting titanium alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, stainless steels, and other high-strength workpiece materials - designated under primary workpiece material codes H, M, and S. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral geometry promote chip evacuation in these tough materials. It is suited for aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments where tool performance in difficult-to-machine alloys is a primary concern. Machinists and CNC programmers working with titanium and temperature alloys will find this geometry well-matched to those applications.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and milling machines equipped with standard collet chucks or drill chucks accepting a 0.4724-inch (12.00 mm) straight cylindrical shank. Optimized for titanium alloys and temperature-resistant alloys per M.A. FORD Series 2XDSR application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling and CNC or manual drilling setups. Secure the straight shank fully in a collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout does not exceed the tool tolerance. Solid carbide is brittle - avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed adjustments, and contact with hard fixtures during tool changes. Consult the machine tool manufacturer and M.A. FORD cutting data recommendations for appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates for the target workpiece material.
