The M.A. FORD 2XDSR2500A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It features a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) diameter, a 142-degree point angle optimized for hard and abrasive workpieces, and an ALtima AlTiN coating that extends tool life under elevated cutting temperatures. The overall length is 3.25 inches with a 1.74 inch flute length, making it compact enough for most jobber-style applications. A web-thinned, tapered web construction reduces thrust force at entry, and the two-flute right-hand spiral geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. This drill is suited for shops and field crews working with tight tolerances, with a diameter tolerance of -0.00059 to 0.00000 inches.
The 2XDSR2500A is intended for drilling steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys — material categories where standard high-speed steel tooling underperforms. The Series 2XDSR is a high-performance line built for production environments, tool rooms, and MRO applications where consistent hole quality in hard materials is required. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting 1/4 inch shanks. Maximum drilling depth is 1.39 inches. No coolant-through capability is present, so conventional flood or mist coolant application at the entry point is the typical approach for heat management in ferrous and exotic alloy drilling.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material groups H, M, and S). Part of the M.A. FORD Series 2XDSR high-performance carbide drill line, size range 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches.
This drill is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals using standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, or hand-held power tools equipped with a compatible 1/4 inch chuck or collet. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secure before engaging the cut. Because this bit lacks coolant-through capability, apply flood or mist coolant externally at the cutting zone to manage heat when drilling steel or high-temperature alloys. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping or wear before each use, as solid carbide tools are brittle and should not be used in setups with excessive runout or vibration.
