Product Description

The M.A. FORD 2XDCS1285A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 30 (0.1285 inches). It features a 142-degree split point and an ALtima plus Titanium Nitride (TiN) dual-layer coating. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a 7/8-inch (0.8750 inches) flute length and a 5/32-inch (0.1562-inch decimal) straight-cylindrical shank. The 142-degree point geometry reduces thrust force on entry and improves self-centering without a center punch. This drill is built for high-performance applications in difficult-to-machine materials and is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians working on precision drilling operations.

This bit is rated for use in temperature-resistant alloys, stainless steels, and high-strength materials, corresponding to workpiece material codes H, M, and S. The coolant-through design channels cutting fluid directly to the cutting edge, making it suitable for CNC machining centers and drill presses where through-spindle coolant is available. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute promote chip evacuation in short, interrupted cuts common in aerospace, medical, and energy-sector component work. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 0.700 inches.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and heat resistance in hard alloys
  • ALtima plus TiN dual coating reduces friction and extends tool life in temperature-resistant alloys
  • 142-degree point angle with short drill point length (0.0200 inches) for accurate entry and reduced walking
  • Coolant-through design compatible with through-spindle coolant systems
  • Right-hand cutting, regular spiral flute for consistent chip evacuation
  • Tight diameter tolerance of +0.00000 to -0.00047 inches for close-tolerance hole requirements

Compatibility

Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses running through-spindle or external coolant. Suited for drilling temperature-resistant alloys, stainless steel, and high-strength materials per workpiece codes H, M, and S. Part of M.A. FORD Series 2XDCS.

Installation Notes

This drill bit is intended for use by machinists in CNC or manual drilling equipment with appropriate collet or chuck holding the 5/32-inch straight-cylindrical shank securely. Ensure spindle runout is within acceptable limits before use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Follow shop safety practices and applicable ANSI machining standards when operating at recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material.
