The M.A. FORD 2XDCL1772A is a solid carbide taper length drill bit engineered for demanding precision drilling applications in metalworking and machining environments. It carries a 4.5 mm (0.1772 inch) diameter and features a 142-degree drill point angle optimized for flat-bottomed entry and reduced thrust. The TiN coating extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction. With a 7xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio, this bit maintains rigidity while reaching deeper bore depths than standard jobber-length drills. Coolant-through capability allows cutting fluid to be delivered directly to the cutting edge, improving chip evacuation and heat management. This bit is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators working in tool rooms, job shops, or production machining cells.
The 2XDCL1772A is suited for drilling cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, alloy steel, and tool steel. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders across manual and CNC drilling setups. The 100 mm overall length and 45 mm flute length make it appropriate for intermediate-depth holes where a jobber-length bit would lack rigidity or reach. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix angle support consistent chip flow on a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials within its rated application list.
Rated for use in cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, steel, and tool steel applications. Straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders sized for a 5 mm shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine in a full-stop, zero-energy state per applicable machine safety lockout procedures. Secure the straight shank fully within the collet or chuck to the recommended clamping depth before tightening. Verify spindle speed and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material and drill diameter before initiating the cut. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 36 mm without retracting to clear chips.
