The M.A. FORD 2XDCL1220A is a taper length drill bit built from solid carbide and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating. It measures 3.1 mm (0.1220 inches) in diameter and carries a 142-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust on entry. The 7xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives it extended reach beyond a standard jobber-length bit while keeping the setup rigid enough for precision work. Coolant-through capability makes it suitable for high-speed machining centers where heat removal is critical. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary users of this bit.
The 2XDCL1220A is designed for drilling into cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, alloy steel, and tool steel. Its taper length and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses. The 44 mm flute length and 35 mm maximum drilling depth suit through-hole and blind-hole operations in medium-thickness workpieces. Applications range from production drilling on steel plate to precision hole-making in titanium aerospace components where tool life and dimensional consistency matter most.
Rated for use in cast iron, titanium, carbon steel, steel, and tool steel. Fits standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems. Verify spindle runout and holder concentricity before use in tight-tolerance applications.
This bit is installed by machinists and CNC operators in machine tool setups. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the bit from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the holder is torqued to the tool manufacturer's specification for the collet or chuck type in use. When drilling titanium or tool steel, confirm coolant flow is active before the spindle engages to prevent thermal damage to the cutting edge.
