The M.A. FORD. 278L37500B is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with AlCrN (aluminum chromium nitride), this tool delivers strong heat resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. It runs a 3/8-inch diameter with a 1-5/8-inch length of cut and a 40-degree helix angle, making it well suited for deep-reach profiling and slotting passes. The 5-flute geometry paired with a variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during the cut, improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this end mill for its long-series reach and rigidity.
This end mill fits standard machining center and CNC milling applications in job shop, production, and toolroom environments. The 3/8-inch shank diameter mounts directly into standard ER collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit tooling systems. The long-series overall length of 4 inches provides clearance for deep-pocket and stepped-wall features that shorter stub-length tools cannot reach. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction match conventional climb and conventional milling setups on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 3/8-inch shank end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and shrink-fit systems used on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers requiring a long-series 5-flute square end mill.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state before changing tooling. Clean the shank and holder bore before seating the tool to prevent runout. Confirm proper torque on the collet nut or set screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification before initiating a cutting cycle.
