The M.A. FORD. 278CB50030B is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting and machining applications. It features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut and five helical flutes for efficient chip evacuation and improved surface finish. The tool carries an AlCrN (aluminum chromium nitride) coating, which increases hardness and heat resistance at the cutting edge. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this end mill delivers consistent performance in demanding cutting conditions. It is a single-end tool with a right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute orientation, suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is intended for use in professional machine shop environments, including job shops, tool rooms, and production floors. It is well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The variable index geometry helps reduce chatter and improve cut quality during both roughing and finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators working with tight tolerances will find the micrograin carbide substrate and AlCrN coating appropriate for high-speed and high-feed applications.
Designed as a single-end solid carbide square end mill with a 0.5-inch shank diameter, compatible with standard ER and straight-bore collet systems and tool holders accepting 0.5-inch shank tooling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and spindle locked. Proper tool holder runout should be verified before use, as excessive runout reduces tool life and surface quality. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feed and speed guidelines for the workpiece material. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or tool holder before operation.
