The M.A. FORD 27818710B is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal and alloy workpieces. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this tool delivers rigidity and wear resistance in demanding cutting environments. It features 5 helical flutes at a 40-degree helix angle, which promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces during aggressive feeds. The AlCrN coating adds thermal and oxidation resistance, extending tool life in dry or high-speed cutting applications. With a 3/16 inch cutting diameter and 7/16 inch length of cut, it is suited for fine slotting, profiling, and finishing passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals handling close-tolerance work will find this geometry appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing in a single setup.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills for slotting, contouring, and peripheral milling of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter at higher spindle speeds, making it well suited for hard materials and thin-wall features. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction follow standard toolholder orientation. The 3/16 inch shank diameter fits standard collet systems and shrink-fit holders sized for that diameter. Applications include mold and die work, aerospace component finishing, and precision part production where tight tolerances and surface finish requirements are critical.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill for use in standard 3/16 inch collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and hydraulic toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with toolholder torque procedures and runout inspection. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the collet or holder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a 5-flute geometry.
