The M.A. FORD 277XCB3120B is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal cutting and machining applications. It features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) cutting diameter, a 1-3/4 inch (1.7500 inch) length of cut, and 4 helical flutes with a 38/41 variable helix geometry. The AlCrN coating provides enhanced heat resistance and tool life in demanding cutting environments. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, this single-end mill is suited for high-feed roughing and finishing passes. It is centercutting capable, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. Machinists and toolroom professionals specify this end mill for ferrous and hardened material applications where coating performance and edge retention are critical.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines where close-tolerance slot milling, peripheral milling, and contouring are required. The 5/16 inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, making it compatible with standard collets and toolholders of that bore size. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. The variable helix angle reduces harmonic vibration and chatter during cut, improving surface finish and tool stability in both roughing and semi-finishing operations.
Designed for use with standard 5/16 inch bore collets and toolholders in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. No specific compatible machine models were identified in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or removing the end mill from the collet or toolholder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder to achieve the correct clamping grip length and minimize runout. Follow machine tool manufacturer torque specifications when tightening the drawbar or collet nut.
