The M.A. FORD. 277L5000B is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. With a 1/2 inch mill diameter and 4 helical flutes, this single-end tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. The variable helix design at 38/41 degrees reduces harmonic vibration during high-speed cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. An AlCrN (aluminum chromium nitride) coating adds heat resistance and wear protection, making this end mill well-suited for hard and abrasive materials. Micrograin carbide construction provides rigidity and edge retention across demanding cutting conditions. This tool is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is used in milling operations on ferrous metals, hardened steels, stainless, and similar difficult-to-machine alloys. It fits standard 1/2 inch tool holders and collets used on vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills. The 2 inch length of cut accommodates moderate-depth side milling and slotting operations, while the 4 inch overall length suits standard spindle clearance requirements. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are the standard configuration for conventional and climb milling on CNC and manual equipment.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1/2 inch shank end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and shrink-fit tooling systems used on CNC vertical machining centers and manual milling machines.
This end mill is installed by machinists and CNC operators using a torque wrench and appropriate collet nut or set-screw holder per the machine tool manufacturer's specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning any cut. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut.
