The M.A. FORD. 27237500 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to produce precise, close-tolerance bores in metalworking applications. With a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) diameter and a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches, this reamer delivers accurate hole finishing where dimensional control is critical. The straight flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction make it well suited for through-holes and short blind holes in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Six flutes provide a good balance of chip clearance and surface finish. Licensed machinists, tool and die makers, and precision shop technicians are the primary installers and users of this tool.
This reamer is built for production and job-shop environments where solid carbide tooling is specified for its hardness, wear resistance, and ability to hold diameter tolerance across longer run lengths compared to high-speed steel. It fits standard chucks on CNC machining centers, manual lathes, and drill presses. With an overall length of 3.5 inches and a flute length of 1.25 inches, it is sized for typical short-bore reaming operations in component manufacturing, fixture work, and toolroom applications. The straight shank seats securely in collet chucks and drill chucks without special adapters.

Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with reaming speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid requirements for the workpiece material. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator to avoid oversize bores. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid to the flutes and bore during reaming to protect the carbide edge and achieve the intended surface finish. Do not use this tool as a drill — reaming requires a pre-drilled or bored pilot hole at the correct undersize diameter.
