The M.A. FORD. 27231250 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to precise tolerances. With a 5/16-inch (0.3125 inch) diameter and a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches, this reamer delivers the tight dimensional accuracy required in precision machining, toolroom work, and production environments. The 6-flute straight geometry promotes smooth, consistent cutting action on through-holes and blind holes alike. The straight shank seats directly into standard drill chucks or collet holders. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses.
This reamer is suited for finishing operations in metals where hole-size accuracy and surface finish are critical. Its uncoated solid carbide construction performs well in non-ferrous metals, cast iron, and other materials where carbide tooling is preferred over high-speed steel. The compact 3-1/4-inch overall length keeps the tool rigid in setups with limited Z-axis clearance. It is appropriate for both low-volume toolroom applications and higher-volume production runs requiring repeatable hole geometry.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a straight shank in the 5/16-inch diameter range.
Chucking reamers should be installed by qualified machinists following proper workholding and spindle-alignment procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is aligned to the hole axis before reaming to prevent bell-mouthing or chatter. Cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material should be applied to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Never use a reamer to remove excessive stock — drill or bore the hole to within standard reaming allowance before finishing with this tool.
