The M.A. FORD 27223800 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in machine shop and manufacturing environments. Ground to a Letter B designation, it measures 0.2380 inches in diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches, making it suitable for applications where bore accuracy and surface finish are critical. The reamer features a straight flute configuration with right-hand cutting direction and runs on a straight shank for direct chuck mounting. With an overall length of 3 inches and a 1-inch flute length, this tool is sized for short-reach finish reaming operations. It is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision metalworking professionals.
This reamer is intended for finish reaming of drilled or bored holes requiring close dimensional control. The solid carbide construction provides rigidity and wear resistance suited to harder workpiece materials and higher-volume production runs. The straight flute geometry is well-suited to interrupted cuts and through-hole applications where chip evacuation is straightforward. No coolant-through feature is incorporated, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is standard practice during use.
Designed as a direct-mount chucking reamer compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks, ER collet systems, and similar toolholding setups on milling machines, drill presses, and CNC machining centers requiring a Letter B nominal bore size.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secure in the chuck or collet before initiating any cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid externally during reaming to control heat and extend tool life. Avoid running solid carbide reamers at excessive speeds or with interrupted feed, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping under shock loading.
