The M.A. FORD. 27215900 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to precise tolerances in machined components. Built to wire gauge size 21, this reamer produces a 0.1590-inch diameter bore with a tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work in metals and engineered plastics. The straight flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction provide clean material removal with minimal chatter. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute length, the 27215900 is sized for shallow reaming applications on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. It features a straight shank for direct chuck mounting and carries no coating, leaving the carbide substrate exposed for compatibility with a wide range of cutting fluids.
This reamer is used in precision hole-finishing operations across tool and die, aerospace, automotive, and general machining environments. It is suited for production and repair work where dimensional accuracy is critical and hand-reaming is not adequate. The compact flute length targets shallow through-holes and blind holes where a longer reamer would risk deflection. Machinists and CNC operators working in shops that hold tight positional tolerances will find the carbide construction beneficial in harder workpiece materials where high-speed steel reamers wear prematurely.
Designed as an OEM-style precision chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks, ER collet systems, and straight-shank toolholders on CNC machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses where a straight shank is accepted.
Chucking reamers should be installed by qualified machinists following established shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. Verify chuck or collet bore diameter matches the straight shank before tightening. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and never run a reamer in reverse, as this will damage the cutting edges.
