The M.A. FORD. 27208400 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed to finish-size pre-drilled holes to tight tolerances in machining applications. With a reamer diameter of 0.0840 inches and a diameter tolerance of +0.0001 to +0.0003 inches, this tool delivers precise, repeatable bore finishing in a single pass. The straight, four-flute geometry with right-hand cutting direction provides smooth material removal and clean hole walls. At 2 inches overall length with a 0.5-inch flute length, this compact reamer is well suited for shallow-hole finishing operations. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a standard drill chuck or collet chuck on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual lathes.
This reamer is sized within the 0.0500 to 0.0999 inch diameter range and belongs to M.A. FORD. Series 272. It is appropriate for precision finishing of small-diameter holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar machinable materials. The bright, uncoated finish makes it suitable for applications where coating interaction with the workpiece material is a concern. Typical use cases include bearing bore finishing, dowel pin hole preparation, and close-tolerance fit work in production or toolroom environments.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide chucking reamer for use in standard drill chucks and collet chuck systems on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes where a straight-cylindrical shank is accepted.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with reaming operations and machine tool setup. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured before beginning the reaming pass, and verify the chuck or collet is clean and undamaged before seating the shank. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole finish quality. Never use a reamer to remove excessive stock - pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
