The M.A. FORD 27201600 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in tight-tolerance machining applications. Built to wire gauge size 78 with a decimal diameter of 0.0160 inches, it is engineered for machinists and toolroom professionals who require accurate, repeatable bore sizing at the small end of the inch range. The four-flute straight design provides smooth, even cutting action, and the uncoated carbide construction delivers hardness and wear resistance suited to both ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Diameter tolerance is held to plus 0.0001 to plus 0.0003 inches, making this reamer appropriate for close-fit bore work.
This reamer fits standard drill chuck setups and is used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes wherever a straight-shank tool is acceptable. Its 1.5-inch overall length and 3/16-inch flute length make it well suited to shallow through-holes and blind holes requiring a clean, finished bore. Applications include precision instrument components, miniature mechanical assemblies, and tooling fixtures where hole diameter control is critical. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with standard spindle rotation on most machine tools.
Designed as an OEM-style precision reamer for use in standard straight-shank chuck systems on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and lathes requiring wire-gauge-size hole finishing.
Installation and use of this reamer should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the straight shank firmly in a precision drill chuck or collet before operation, and verify runout with an indicator before engaging the workpiece. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and tool diameter, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under side load or chatter.
