The M.A. FORD. 22951560 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. Built to Series 229 specifications, it features a 150-degree drill point angle and a three-flute parabolic design that improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during the cut. The bright, uncoated carbide construction maintains dimensional consistency, with a diameter tolerance held between 0.0003 and 0.0010 inches. At 5 inches overall length with a 3.25-inch flute and a maximum drilling depth of approximately 2.4375 inches, this bit suits production and maintenance drilling operations handled by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
This drill bit is intended for use in non-ferrous metal applications, including aluminum, copper, brass, and similar materials classified under workpiece material code N and O. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. The parabolic flute geometry at a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited for moderate-depth holes in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where consistent chip flow is critical. Coolant-through capability is not available on this model, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied when heat management is a concern.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 33/64-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Best suited for drilling non-ferrous metals in CNC or manual machine tool applications where a jobber-length carbide bit is specified.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling and the machine being used. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth to prevent runout. Avoid using carbide drill bits in hand drills or unsupported setups, as vibration and flex can cause carbide to fracture.
