The M.A. FORD. 22942190 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. Built to Series 229 specifications, it features a 150-degree split point, a three-flute parabolic geometry, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at the cut. The bright uncoated finish keeps the carbide substrate exposed for clean entry into aluminum, copper, brass, and other N and O material group workpieces. With a 27/64-inch diameter and a 4.5-inch overall length, this bit fits jobber-length applications where rigidity and accuracy matter.
This bit is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held production drilling operations targeting non-ferrous metal stock. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks and collet systems without modification. A parabolic flute profile with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper passes while clearing chips effectively. The 2-7/8-inch flute length accommodates a maximum drilling depth of 2-5/32 inches. It carries no coolant-through capability, so external coolant or dry cutting is standard practice for this model.
Designed for use in non-ferrous metal workpiece materials corresponding to material group codes N and O, including aluminum, copper, and brass alloys. Straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and ER collet systems. Part of the M.A. FORD. Series 229 jobber-length drill line.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians in shop environments. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator on precision setups. No coolant-through channel is present on this bit, so apply external cutting fluid or operate dry per the workpiece material requirements. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and sensitive to impact loading.
