The M.A. FORD. 22409840 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precise, repeatable hole-making in demanding shop and field applications. It measures 0.0984 inches in diameter with a 118-degree faceted point angle and a bright, uncoated finish. The two-flute right-hand spiral design produces clean chip evacuation in a wide range of workpiece materials. Web thinning at the tip reduces thrust requirements at entry, improving accuracy on smaller-diameter through-holes. At 57.00 mm overall length with a 30.00 mm flute length, this bit fits standard jobber-drill setups on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held drilling equipment.
This drill bit is suited for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support general-purpose drilling across light manufacturing, tool-and-die, maintenance, and fabrication environments. It is appropriate for machinists, toolmakers, and precision metalworking technicians who require close-tolerance holes in the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch size range. The drill does not support coolant-through delivery, so conventional flood or mist cooling at the cutting zone is recommended for harder materials.
Designed as a general-purpose OEM-style jobber drill for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0984-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary workpiece material codes K, M, N, and P, corresponding to cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel per DIN 338 classification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck before starting the spindle. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel; avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without adequate support, and excessive feed rates that can cause tip fracture. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or mist cooling to the cutting zone when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to extend tool life and maintain hole-diameter tolerance.
