The M.A. FORD. 22404720A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. It measures 1.20 mm in diameter with an overall length of 38.00 mm (1.4961 inches) and a flute length of 16.00 mm (0.6299 inches). The 118-degree faceted point geometry, combined with a web-thinned tip, reduces entry force and improves centering at the start of a cut. An ALtima plus Titanium Nitride (TiN) dual coating extends tool life in abrasive workpiece materials. This bit is intended for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose drilling across a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides adequate chip evacuation in short-depth applications typical of this diameter class. It is well suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines where consistent hole tolerance and surface finish are required in small-diameter work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard collets and drill chucks sized for 1.20 mm shank diameters.
Designed as a DIN 338 jobber-length replacement or production drill suitable for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits any drill chuck or collet accepting a 1.20 mm straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Carbide is brittle — avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without adequate support, and excessive run-out in the spindle or chuck, as these can cause micro-fractures or breakage. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the material being drilled before engaging the cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use flood or mist coolant at the entry point where the machine setup allows.
