The M.A. FORD. 22404520 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. It measures 0.0452 inches in diameter with a 118-degree faceted point and a bright, uncoated finish. The two-flute, right-hand spiral design produces clean, accurate holes in a single pass. Overall length is 36 mm with a 14 mm flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank measuring 1.15 mm in diameter. Web thinning and a tapered web configuration reduce thrust force at entry, making this bit well-suited for tight-tolerance work where surface finish and hole accuracy matter.
This bit is rated for general-purpose drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel, covering primary workpiece material codes K, M, N, and P. It is a strong fit for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, toolroom, and industrial machining environments. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives it adequate chip clearance for the material types it targets. It conforms to DIN 338 specification, making it a drop-in replacement in applications calling for that standard. Sold individually.
Conforms to DIN 338 specification for jobber-length drill bits. Suitable for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.0452-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using standard drill press, CNC, or hand-held drilling equipment. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the chuck or collet is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Solid carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper support, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection based on workpiece material.
