The M.A. FORD 20638600 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit with a 0.386 inch diameter and a 118-degree faceted drill point angle. Designed for short-length, high-rigidity drilling applications, it runs a 2-flute spiral flute configuration with a right-hand cut. The bright/uncoated finish suits shops that prefer uncoated carbide for specific material compatibility. At 2-3/4 inches overall length with a 1-1/4 inch flute length, this bit is built for close-quarters drilling where a jobber-length bit would be impractical. Machinists, tool and die shops, and general metalworking operations will find this bit suited to precision hole-making in production environments.
The 20638600 is appropriate for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The web-thinned, parallel web construction reduces thrust requirements at the drill point, which is especially useful when working stainless steel or other materials that generate heat and work-harden quickly. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.386 inches in diameter with a 1-1/2 inch shank length, fitting standard drill chucks and collet systems. The Series 206 designation places this bit in M.A. FORD's short-flute carbide line, with a flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.386 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces within the 0.3500 to 0.4000 inch drill bit size range.
This bit is intended for use by machinists and metalworking professionals operating drill presses, CNC machining centers, or manual lathes. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when drilling stainless steel. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point geometry is compromised.
