The M.A. FORD 20631600 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit ground from solid carbide for demanding, short-reach drilling applications. It measures 0.316 inches in diameter with a 118-degree faceted point and a standard bright/uncoated finish. The two-flute, right-hand spiral design runs a regular helix with a web-thinned, parallel-web geometry that reduces entry force and improves chip evacuation. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank and a 1.25-inch flute length, this bit is sized for screw machine and CNC lathe work where rigidity and short overhang are critical. Licensed machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary users.
This Series 206 drill bit is suited for production drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The short flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD makes it a practical choice for high-speed, close-tolerance drilling in automatic screw machines, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where chatter and deflection must be minimized. The solid carbide construction supports higher cutting speeds than high-speed steel alternatives, particularly on abrasive or work-hardening materials such as stainless steel and cast iron.

Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine fully de-energized and spindle stopped. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck to the depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Verify runout before beginning a production run, as excessive runout accelerates carbide wear and can cause chipping. Follow the machine manufacturer and M.A. FORD recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material.
