The M.A. FORD 20619600 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit with a 0.196 inch (No. 9 wire gauge) diameter, designed for short-reach precision drilling in demanding production and repair environments. Built from solid carbide throughout, the bit delivers the rigidity and wear resistance needed when working in cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals. The 118-degree faceted point with web thinning reduces thrust and helps the bit self-center on entry. With a straight-cylindrical shank and a compact 2.25 inch overall length, this bit is well suited for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools where a shorter stub-length geometry provides better control and reduced chatter.
Screw machine length drill bits are the standard choice for high-volume production drilling, close-tolerance work, and applications where standard jobber-length bits introduce too much deflection. The 20619600 covers the 0.150 to 0.200 inch size range of solid carbide stub drilling and is a practical selection for shops running tight-tolerance holes in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio keeps chip evacuation manageable in short-depth holes without spiral buildup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production-use carbide drill bit in M.A. FORD Series 206, suitable for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces.
Solid carbide drill bits are installed by licensed machinists and experienced shop technicians. Secure the straight shank firmly in a compatible drill chuck or collet before use, and verify runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature edge chipping. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid lateral loading, side pressure, or interrupted cuts unless the setup is rigid. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols when operating drilling equipment.
