The M.A. FORD. 20607810 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision short-hole drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Ground to a 0.0781 inches (5/64 inch) diameter with a 118-degree faceted point angle, this bit delivers consistent, accurate entry into hard and abrasive materials. The bright/uncoated finish and web-thinned parallel web construction reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix pattern promote clean cutting and stable tool tracking. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. It is sold and packaged individually.
This drill bit is built for machining cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels. Its screw machine (stub) length format — 1.5 inches overall with a 0.5 inches flute length and a 1.0 inches straight-cylindrical shank — provides rigidity and reduced deflection in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio suits applications requiring controlled chip removal in short, precise bores. Machinists and toolroom technicians will find this format well suited to production drilling of small-diameter holes where runout and chatter control are priorities.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines with standard drill chucks or collet systems accepting a 0.0781 inches straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck to minimize runout before operation. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, and dropping or striking the tool against hard surfaces. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and drill diameter before engaging the cut.
