The M.A. FORD 20523440 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from solid carbide, it delivers superior hardness and heat resistance compared to high-speed steel alternatives. The bit measures 15/64 inch (0.2344 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 2-7/16 inches and a flute length of 1-5/16 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. A slow spiral flute geometry and web-thinned parallel web make this bit well suited for production drilling where chip evacuation and hole quality matter. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators are the primary users.
This drill bit is intended for use on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The screw machine length profile, shorter than a jobber bit, provides added rigidity and reduced deflection, making it a practical choice for drill press, CNC machining center, and turret lathe applications. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. The bright uncoated finish makes it easy to inspect the cutting edge before and after use.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.2344-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Part of the M.A. FORD Series 205 screw machine length carbide drill line covering the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch diameter range.
Solid carbide drills are brittle and should be seated securely in a rigid, runout-minimized holder before use. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly fixtured to prevent vibration, which can cause carbide to chip or fracture. Coolant-through is not supported on this model, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling stainless steel or steel at higher feed rates. Inspect the cutting edge and flutes for chipping before each use.
