The M.A. FORD. 20520310 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in demanding shop and production environments. Built to Series 205 standards, it features a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking on entry, a slow spiral flute geometry, and a bright uncoated finish suited to a wide range of base materials. The right-hand cut, web-thinned construction reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation. At 0.2031 inches (13/64 inch) in diameter with a straight-cylindrical shank of the same diameter, it seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and production drillers working in job shops or light manufacturing will find this bit a reliable everyday performer.
This bit is intended for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and general steel stock. Its screw machine length body — 2-1/4 inches overall with a 1-3/16 inch flute length — provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited to CNC machining centers, turret lathes, drill presses, and screw machine applications where repeatability and runout control matter. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and parallel web configuration support consistent chip flow in through-hole and blind-hole operations.
Designed as an OEM-style production drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks, ER collets, and drill bushings accepting a 0.2031 inch shank diameter. Suitable for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, drill presses, and screw machine setups drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces.
Machinists and tool-room technicians should verify chuck or collet concentricity before seating the bit to minimize runout. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully within the collet or chuck jaws to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant externally when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat buildup, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to side-load or interrupted cuts.
