The M.A. FORD 20506250 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. The 1/16 inch (0.0625 inch) diameter bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting force at entry, making it well suited for production and tight-tolerance work. A slow spiral flute geometry supports chip evacuation in the short flute length typical of screw machine style bits. Bright/uncoated finish suits applications where coating compatibility or regrinding economics are a consideration. This bit is sold individually and intended for use by machinists, tool and die tradespeople, and industrial maintenance technicians.
The 20506250 is sized for screw machine length work where a shorter overall length provides rigidity in drilling operations. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The 5/8 inch flute length and 1 inch straight-cylindrical shank fit standard drill chucks and collet systems used in CNC machining centers, manual mills, drill presses, and screw machines. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned parallel web configuration reduce thrust requirements in harder alloys and interrupted cuts.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement or production drill for applications in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces where a 1/16 inch diameter, straight-cylindrical shank bit is required.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotary cutting tool handling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, as carbide tooling is brittle and sensitive to side loading or impact. Observe machine RPM and feed rate guidelines appropriate to the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid premature tool failure.
