The M.A. FORD. 20422800 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 1 wire gauge (0.2280 inches decimal), designed for precision drilling in demanding materials. It features a 118-degree faceted point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web construction that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece is a concern. With a 3.0-inch overall length and a 1.75-inch spiral flute, this bit handles typical jobber-length drilling tasks in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Qualified to ISO 9001:2015 standards, it is a general-purpose tool intended for professional machine-shop and production environments.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The regular-spiral, two-flute geometry keeps chip flow manageable across these material groups. It is sized for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools with a straight-cylindrical shank. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it well suited to through-hole and blind-hole applications at standard jobber depths. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied at the tool face when drilling stainless or harder steel grades.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.2280-inch shank diameter. Suitable for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces across M.A. FORD. Series 204.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before cutting. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing or indexing tooling. No coolant-through path is present on this bit; apply external cutting fluid at the drill face when working stainless steel or alloy steels to manage heat and extend tool life.
