The M.A. FORD. 20420310 is a jobber-length, solid carbide drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. With a 13/64-inch (0.2031-inch decimal) diameter and a 118-degree faceted point, it delivers accurate, repeatable entry in cast iron, stainless steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals. The right-hand, regular spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation over a 1-3/4-inch flute length. At 3.0 inches overall length with a straight-cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders. A web-thinned, tapered web reduces thrust force at entry, making it well-suited for both manual and machine drilling operations.
This bit is used in general-purpose industrial and maintenance drilling applications where carbide hardness and edge retention outperform high-speed steel alternatives. Typical install scenarios include production drilling in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance environments working with cast iron components, stainless steel plate, structural steel, and aluminum alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deeper holes while maintaining chip clearance. It is sold individually and is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools when a rigid setup is maintained.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and rigid handheld drilling setups. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel (material codes K, M, N, P). Part of M.A. FORD. Series 204.
Installation and use of carbide drill bits should be performed by machinists or qualified trade professionals familiar with proper speeds and feeds for carbide tooling. Secure the workpiece and verify chuck or collet runout before drilling to avoid chipping the carbide flutes. Carbide is brittle - avoid impact loading, side forces, or interrupted cuts without verifying suitability for the specific operation. Always follow applicable shop safety standards and machine guarding requirements when operating drill presses or CNC equipment.
