The M.A. FORD 20417190 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. It measures 11/64 inches (0.1719 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 2-3/4 inches and a flute length of 1-5/8 inches. The 118-degree faceted point geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve centering. The bright uncoated finish keeps the carbide substrate exposed for applications where coating buildup would be a concern. A regular spiral flute with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose use across a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. It is well-suited for production drilling and precision repair work where dimensional accuracy matters. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard keyless or keyed drill chucks and collet-style holders without modification. The 2-flute right-hand cut design handles both manual drill presses and CNC machining centers running moderate to high spindle speeds. It fits into Series 204 tooling programs where consistent stock removal and repeatability across tight-tolerance holes are required.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose carbide jobber drill for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling equipment capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 11/64 inches diameter. Rated for cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces per the manufacturer specification.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with proper cutting tool handling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning any drilling operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped rigidly to prevent walking, especially at entry. Carbide tooling is brittle — do not subject the bit to side-loading, impact, or prying forces that would cause chipping or breakage.
