The M.A. FORD 20407850 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 47 (0.0785 inches decimal equivalent), designed for precision hole-making in demanding production and maintenance environments. The bit features a 118-degree faceted point angle with web thinning for improved penetration and reduced thrust force at entry. A regular spiral flute with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The straight cylindrical shank and 1.75-inch overall length make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders. This bit ships uncoated (bright finish) and carries ISO 9001:2015 certification.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. It is well suited for precision production drilling, toolroom work, and MRO applications where tight hole tolerances are required. The diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches ensures consistent, close-tolerance holes. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with small-diameter fastener clearance holes or tapping operations will find this bit appropriate for CNC or manual drill press use.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide jobber drill for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines equipped with standard straight-shank collets or chucks accepting a 0.0785-inch shank diameter.
Solid carbide tooling should be installed and removed with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and free of debris before seating the straight shank to prevent runout. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts at excessive feed rates, or re-chucking with worn collets. No coolant-through capability on this bit; apply flood or mist coolant externally when drilling stainless steel or cast iron at sustained speeds.
