The M.A. FORD 20407000 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 50, with a decimal diameter of 0.0700 inches. The bit features a 118-degree faceted drill point, a regular spiral flute, and a straight-cylindrical shank of equal 0.0700-inch diameter. Overall length is 1.75 inches with a flute length of 0.875 inches, giving a flute-to-diameter ratio of 5xD. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating adhesion or contamination is a concern. Web-thinned construction with a tapered web reduces entry thrust and improves chip evacuation. This bit is intended for installation by machinists and tool-room technicians working in precision drilling operations.
The 20407000 is designed for general-purpose drilling in a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Its two-flute right-hand spiral geometry handles these material groups across standard drill press, CNC, and hand-held drilling setups. The 0.0700-inch diameter makes it well suited for pilot holes, through-hole operations, and close-tolerance work where small-diameter precision is required. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling stainless steel or cast iron.

Solid carbide drill bits are brittle and must be run at appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates for the workpiece material to avoid chipping or fracture. Power down and lock out any machine before changing tooling. Use external cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or cast iron to control heat. Inspect the cutting edge and shank for damage before each use; do not run a chipped or bent carbide bit.
