The M.A. FORD 20404200 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 58 (0.0420 inches decimal), ground from solid carbide stock with a bright, uncoated finish. It runs a standard 118-degree faceted point with web thinning to improve penetration at entry, and a two-flute regular spiral geometry optimized for chip evacuation. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.75-inch flute length and a straight-cylindrical shank. Solid carbide construction gives this bit the rigidity and edge retention needed when drilling small-diameter holes in abrasive or hard materials. It is a general-purpose tool manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 certified processes and rated for the Series 204 product line.
This bit is suited for precision drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and general steel stock. Its compact jobber length and small decimal diameter make it a common choice for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held operations where tight tolerances and consistent hole sizing in the 0.0420-inch range are required. The web-thinned, faceted point reduces thrust load, which is especially valuable when drilling stainless or hardened ferrous material at this diameter. No coolant-through capability is built in, so external coolant or dry operation applies.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.0420-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists or tool-setup technicians on CNC equipment, drill presses, or hand drills rated for the applicable shank size. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck are fully stopped and de-energized before inserting or removing the bit. At this diameter, use the lowest feed rate and appropriate RPM for the workpiece material to prevent bit breakage; consult the machine manufacturer and tooling guidelines for recommended cutting parameters. External coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling stainless steel or hardened ferrous stock.
