The M.A. FORD. 20403800A is a jobber-length drill bit built for precision drilling in demanding materials. Manufactured from solid carbide and coated with ALtima TiN, this bit is designed for extended tool life in cast iron, stainless steel, general steel, and non-ferrous metals. The 118-degree four-facet point provides accurate self-centering starts and reduced thrust. At 0.0380 inches in diameter with an overall length of 1.5 inches, it fits within the Series 204 lineup for small-diameter, high-performance drilling applications. A right-hand spiral flute design with web thinning promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting resistance in tight-tolerance holes.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking environments, including fabrication shops, machine shops, and industrial maintenance settings. Its two-flute regular spiral geometry and straight cylindrical shank work with standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders. Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout or breakage. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be used in applications with excessive vibration or interrupted cuts without verifying suitability. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use, as solid carbide bits at this diameter are sensitive to chipping from side loading or improper feed rates.
