The M.A. FORD 20402100A is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 75, with a decimal diameter of 0.0210 inches. It features a 118-degree four-facet point with web thinning for accurate self-centering and reduced thrust on entry. The ALtima and Titanium Nitride (TiN) dual coating extends tool life by increasing surface hardness and reducing friction during cutting. The overall length is 1.5 inches with a flute length of 0.25 inches, and the spiral flute geometry is standard regular-helix for general-purpose chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision fabricators are the primary installers of micro-diameter drills of this type.
This drill is designed for general-purpose applications requiring tight-tolerance micro holes. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0210 inches diameter fits standard collet chucks and precision drill chucks capable of holding micro-diameter tooling. Series 204 from M.A. FORD targets production and toolroom environments where hole location accuracy and diameter consistency are critical. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports stable cutting at this micro scale.
Suited for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces as classified under material codes K, M, N, and P. Compatible with standard collet chucks and precision micro drill chucks that accept a 0.0210-inch straight-cylindrical shank. No coolant-through capability; external coolant or cutting fluid application is typical for this series.
Micro-diameter carbide drills require a rigid, low-runout spindle and a precision collet or drill chuck to prevent breakage. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm spindle runout is within acceptable limits for the diameter in use. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel and is more susceptible to breakage from lateral load or fixture movement, so side pressure must be avoided. Always follow shop safety practices and applicable machine tool operating procedures when working with micro tooling.
