The M.A. FORD. 20402000 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 76, equivalent to 0.0200 inches in diameter. It features a 118-degree faceted drill point and a two-flute regular spiral configuration with web thinning for improved chip evacuation and reduced entry force. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0200 inches in diameter and the overall length is 1.5 inches, with a flute length of 0.25 inches. Manufactured to a 5xD flute-by-diameter ratio, this bit is built for precise, small-diameter drilling in demanding materials. It is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals requiring tight-tolerance hole-making in hard substrates.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. Its solid carbide construction handles the hardness and abrasiveness of these materials where high-speed steel bits lose edge life quickly. The general-purpose grade and bright uncoated finish make it appropriate for a wide range of shop and field applications, including precision component work, fixture fabrication, and maintenance drilling where small-diameter accuracy is critical. The tapered web configuration reduces walking at entry and supports cleaner breakthrough on through-holes.
Designed as a general-purpose small-diameter jobber drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.0200-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for use on cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces per Series 204 application guidelines.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or technician using a drill press, CNC machining center, or precision hand drill with an appropriately sized collet or chuck. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material even though the bit does not feature through-coolant, as surface application improves tool life on stainless steel and cast iron. Inspect the bit for chipping or edge wear before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to fracture if run in a worn or misaligned setup.
