The M.A. FORD. 20401450 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Sized to wire gauge No. 79 with a decimal diameter of 0.0145 inches, it features a 118-degree faceted point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved centering and reduced thrust on entry. The bright uncoated finish is standard for solid carbide tools used in short-run or precision work. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.25-inch flute length and a regular spiral flute geometry, this bit is suited for tight-tolerance holes in small-diameter applications. Installation is performed by machinists and precision fabricators working on CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-drilling fixtures.
This drill bit is rated for general-purpose use across a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The 5xD flute-by-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in these materials without coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for low-to-moderate feed-rate applications where external coolant or dry cutting is the standard workflow. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collets and drill chucks sized for 0.0145-inch shank diameters.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide jobber drill for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard collets and drill chucks accepting a 0.0145-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists and precision metalworking technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a collet or drill chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for small-diameter carbide tooling. Solid carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or dropping the tool. No coolant-through capability is present; apply external coolant or use dry cutting practices appropriate to the workpiece material.
