The M.A. FORD 20020550 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit engineered for precision holemaking in demanding materials. At 0.2055 inches in diameter (Wire Size 5), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust force on entry. The uncoated carbide construction handles heat and abrasion better than HSS in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. With a 2.0-inch overall length and a 0.75-inch flute length, this bit is suited for short, accurate holes in toolroom, die, and mold work. Right-hand cutting direction. Web-thinned geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces torque demand at the spindle.
This drill bit is intended for use in machining centers, drill presses, and CNC equipment where tight tolerances and difficult materials are routine. Primary target materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. This bit is installed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians in drill chucks or collet holders rated for the 0.2055-inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secured before operation and confirm the chuck or collet is torqued to the equipment manufacturer's specification. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material unless running dry as intended. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping before each use, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side-loading or interrupted cuts.
