The M.A. FORD 20017180 is a solid carbide, straight-flute die drill bit designed for precision holemaking in demanding materials. Built to DIN standards, it features an 11/64-inch diameter with a 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry that reduces entry force and walking at the start of a cut. The uncoated carbide construction delivers consistent performance in cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, high-temperature alloys, and titanium. With a 2-inch overall length and 5/8-inch flute length, this bit fits tight-clearance die and mold work where standard-length drills cannot reach. Right-hand cutting direction. Diameter tolerance is held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches.
This bit is sized and configured for toolroom, die-making, and precision machining applications. Its short flute and rigid carbide body make it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual toolroom mills operating on hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Typical use cases include through-holes and blind holes in die steel, stainless steel components, non-ferrous metals, and ceramic or glass substrates where carbide is required to maintain edge life. The straight-flute design handles materials that work-harden or produce short, brittle chips.
Designed for holemaking in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, hardened materials, high-temperature alloys, titanium, ceramic, and glass. Compatible with standard 11/64-inch collets and chucks accepting a 0.1719-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in a collet or drill chuck rated for the intended RPM and feed load before operating. Ensure the spindle is at a full stop before changing or inspecting the bit. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to side loads or impact beyond the designed cutting parameters.
