The M.A. FORD. 20004680 is a solid carbide straight-flute die drill bit designed for precision holemaking in demanding materials. Built to Series 200 specifications, this bit features a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The uncoated carbide construction holds tight tolerances, with a drill diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches. At 0.0469 inches (3/64 inch) in diameter and 1.5 inches overall length, it is sized for small-hole work in tooling, die components, and precision machined parts. Two right-hand flutes provide chip clearance in deep-hole applications at this scale.
This drill bit is suited for holemaking in cast iron, steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, austenitic stainless steel, titanium, high-temperature alloys, hardened materials, ceramic, and glass. It is commonly used in die shops, tool rooms, and precision machining environments where small-diameter holes must be held to tight tolerances. The straight-flute design is appropriate for short-chip materials and for applications where flute geometry must minimize lateral deflection in confined die cavities.
Designed as an OEM-style precision drill for use in standard die drill applications across cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, alloy steel, austenitic stainless steel, ceramic, glass, hardened materials, high-temperature alloys, and titanium workpieces per Series 200 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or drill chuck rated for the 0.0469-inch shank diameter before operation. Carbide is brittle at this diameter - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed rate adjustment, and any flex in the workholding setup. Confirm spindle runout is within acceptable limits before drilling to prevent premature breakage.
